The protagonist of The Great Silence is named Silenzio (in the italian print), and I just love that name. Mine is fairly obvious. REALLY obvious.

And where is the antagonist of the great Silenzio? I thought he would make fun of your name. Did you scare him off?

It's perfect timing, large one...

Mine is pretty complicated...

When we were on a holiday camp with my sister, the children there were parted into two groups, older and younger. The older were Beavers and the younger were Marmots/Groundhogs (according to what name for that animal you prefer. ;)). As you can guess, I was Marmot; and my sister was Beaver. When we were meeting, we always were saying "Hello, sister Beaver" - "Hello, sister Marmot" - and it stayed. My nickname is "Svišť", i.e. Marmot.
When I was creating my e-mail adress, I just didn't want to use my real name at the moment, so I used my nick - in Latin, because it sounded good. And because the provider made people have dot in their usernames, I added the first letter of my surname after the dot. marmota.b
When I joined IMDb (I think it was there), the dot was turned into dash. I liked it, so I decided to use this username everywhere.

There are two kinds of films in this world:those which stay, even when their genre is forgotten, and those which don't.

Is mine too obvious to explain? I don't want to offend anybodies Leone knowledge here.

His avatar could never scare me off!

I simply had nothing to say about his otherwise brilliant post!

Well, tell me more, Silenzio, tell me more.

I thought it was darn good, Mifune was marvelous, and there was some truly memorable dialogue:

"Stupid friends are dangerous."

"Go away, or I am liabel to kill you."

It was just all around good, strong plot, strong acting, Kurosawa's direction is great (as always), and it's a solid film. I'm really not one to leave  lengthy reviews, unless prodded to do so (like in that one Duck, You Sucker thread). I'll just say I preferred Yojimbo, and though Sanjuro was very solid, it didn't have that special "something" that movie like Rashomon, Seven Samurai, Ran, Yojimibo etc. had.

Out of all the Kurosawa films I've seen (8 or 9) this one is probably one of my least favorites, but that doesn't mean it's not a good film, it's still great. Soon I'll be watching Ikiru, which I'm long overdue to see, and after that, probably Red Beard.

Wow, I just realized how consistently Kurosawsa churns out great movies. Every single one of his movies I've seen has been awesome.

I know we shouldn't be too off from the thread, but thank you for your comment.

If "Yojimbo" is a rhapsody of desolate winter, "Sanjuro" is a rondo of spring. They are good companion to each other. I love them both.

Enjoy "Ikiru" and "Red Beard". They are more serious films. Let me know what you think of them in Off Topic Forum.
