Danny Aiello is one of my favorite actors, and his part is OUATIA is great, but he's very underrated, nowadays he's only cast in small roles in unimportant films. Of course he's great in the last don, and Leon, and of course the greatest Danny Aiello character in Do the right thing. But there's something about the guys face, he's got a great face, and I can't imagine anyone else as the police chief.

Love Aiello. Check out his performance in TWO DAYS IN THE VALLEY. Nifty little movie but Aiello steals it!

Well. . . you can tell by my new avatar what I think about him. . .  Grin but still, that was hilarious when he came out of the police station and started posing for the cameras.  His reaction to finding out "his" son was a girl was too funny as well.

I loved the scenes in which Aiello was in, especially when he came out posing for the cameras. I love the switching between camera positions in that certain part.

Have any of you been to Danny's official site at http://www.dannyaiello.com?  If not, check it out.

Also, see if we can get some discussion at their message board:

... of course the greatest Danny Aiello character in Do the right thing...

I am embarrassed to admit that apart from occasional snippets on TV, I had never seen "Do the Right Thing" until this weekend. I now see just why it is so famous - and deservedly so, I might add. A lot of people have quite rightly praised it for its powerful content, but technically this really stood-out as well in terms of style. The great camera angles and editing are all the more surprising given that Barry Brown, the editor, was so inexperienced at the time and Spike Lee was still relatively unknown.
