It seems that there are two different offering (DVD zone 2) in europe (FNAC in France or Playcom in UK): 116 minutes release immediately available AND 220 minutes (2 disks) annouced by June.
I checked today the FNAC website and the second one offering (the most complete) is cancelled. I am very disappointed and I wrote it to FNAC.
For information:
                    Format image
                                      16:9 compatible 4/3 format d'origine respecté 1.85

                    Support
                                             simple face double couche

                    Qualité
                                                Stéréo, couleur

                    Durée
                                                 220 minutes
Thank's god Playcom in UK still maintains the product and the delivery date (June 30)

220' 226' 227' 229'
are all these versions actually different or are they all the same, the discrepancy on running times might be due to different methods in film and standards transfer.

Yes, that's a good point about the running time being affected by different film standards (NTSC vs PAL, for example) because of their different frame rates. Perhaps that does explain some of the discrepancies. But in addition  to that, there were multiple "cuts" of the film, with different running times. There's a good discussion of this at: http://home.earthlink.net/~davidp_hayes/Articles/m10.html

That article discusses five different versions (one of which is only a rumor). One of these runs for 3hrs 46 minutes but was cut by two minutes to 224 mins for release in the States, so that it could receive an R rating (jnstead of, presumably, an X rating). The 2 mins were cut from the second rape scene -- some people think these cuts actually improved that scene, others disagree (of course).

But other versions with times of 227 or 229 minutes are not mentioned. Maybe the article is not that authoritative after all, or maybe there's bad information on the times people quote, or maybe the different film-rates account for some of this. Amazon is still quoting 226 minutes, Warner is still saying nothing, and other sites (which seem to be  based all on the same press release) are saying 229 mins. Foreign releases are (like the full-frame, unrestored Brazilian release that has been floating around fo a while) often quote 227! We'll soon find out!
Cheers,
--Alistair

And now... Germany will get it too!!!
Go have a look at http://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00009555U/ase%5Fwwwkelkoode-21/028-7204349-1162962. It will be released on June 18, but no technical info is available yet, nor could I find it in other German websites.
.
.
.
Updated news: today the same site has cancelled June 18 as expected release date, and my German is a little too rusty -to say the least- to understand what they say there

You have to be very careful with this.

Fnac.fr annouces a 220 minute version, but amazon.fr, who works with fnac, has the 116 minute version.

Before buying the DVD from Fnac, I personnaly would check it in Fnac Les Halles if it is the 220/226 minute version.

I'm maybe wrong, but I would tell you to buy the DVD from Amazon.com (USA) if you can read the zone 1 dvds.

Shorty, you are right, I'm becoming nut
Today
1° Amazone Site in France announces a collector (2 disks) and 116 minutes by June 12
2° FNAC annouces the same collector and 220 minutes by june 30 ,  BUT delete this offering without explaination
3° Play Com in U.K still annouces the same collector by June 30  without any information about time lenght.

I am not quiet.

Aaronson, I've just checked the fnac.fr site.

The Dvd has disappear indeed, no more news, nothing.

Very misterious.....

The same site offers the OUTW DVD, but only in Italian and with italian subtitles only (zone 2, 34€ or dollars if you prefer).

Go have a look at this:

That's the dear old fnac.fr site with news on OUATIA. True, the release date is no longer showed, but you can find it here:

GuyBrush, I keep my fingers crossed , but  the offering on CINESTORE seems the same than another sites: 220 minutes ? really ? What the part of  movie and comments?

By the way ,  Playcom in UK now shows us a new cover with Williamsburg Bridge (as any others) AND a smart De Niro face.

But always no comment about lenght.  ???

Yes, I like that cover with DeNiro-Noodles very VERY much.
It's a pity that in France they will release a slightly different cover.

As regards length, don't worry, it will be the 220' version which circulated in Europe in the 80's, as also reported by BlackStar

I own the US laserdisc which runs 226 min. On this version there is an important flasback of the final scene missing. I hope they corrected that and the 3 more minutes on the DVD-version is a hint for that.
Does anybody know more about that?

Most versions of the film seem to omit the scene you mention[presumably the scene when Max is trying to get Noodles to shoot him and he remembers various bits from childhood briefly].the really old UK video had this scene in,and so did a showing on UK's Channel 4,but the widescreen video did not,nor did a showing on BBC2.I have a [rather poor]Portuguese DVd of the film and the scene is still missing!I also hope to God the forth-coming DVD has it.
