DVD Beaver have just released their review of the R1 Disc http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDReviews16/once_upon_a_time_in_america_dvd_review.htm and its not an all too positive review. I agree about the lack of special features but the cropping is disturbing. I only have the R2 but A/V to me is perfectly acceptable, there is perhaps too much grain on some of the scenes but I didn't think it as bad as the esteemed Gary Tooze describes it. What do you think?

If they would have cut at the intermission there would've been enough room on the second disc for more stuff.

I hope one day, on a different format, it's released uncut with no breaks in it. When I first saw it on television there was no adverts, and no intermission, and it was great. I do think in some scenes some picture quality is lost, the cinematography doesn't look as good, I'm thinking maybe the scene with Noodles and Tuesday Weld in the car outside the bank of the top of my head
