There has been a lot of discussion on the boards about the poncho, its holes and  its color. Here are some screen grabs that show several things. First the series of gunshot holes. These were actual holes as seen in AFOD, Eastwood wears the poncho with the holes over his heart. In the next movies he wears it backwards but not flipped (topside/underside) and the holes are seen on the rear right shoulder area. This was also a good way for Eastwood to know exactly how to wear it the same way in each scene.

The orginal color does appear to be green, and since Eastwood wears the poncho the same way every time, with the sunshine bleaching it out, fading, never washing it, and dirty it turns brown over the next movies. You can  clearly see this in the GBU when the poncho is flipped over his shoulder. The underside still retains its green color.

p.s.  In AFOD the holes are seen before the final shootout with Ramone, when Joe gets paid by Don Miguel.  Eastwood wears the poncho backwords and tries to cover up the holes with the saddle bag slung over this shoulder. They probably shot this scene after filming the ending shootout. (not a nit-pick!  Just info on the shooting sequence of this movie)

Nice job, that explains why the poncho now appears brown at the museum exhibit.  Yes, the sewn-up bullet-holes are present and visible in the exhibited poncho at the museum.

well done  sir

i am sure it was elementary for u( ironically enough the line "elementary my dear watson elementary" is never said by sherlock holmes in any of the books. wonder how that got to be is most famous catch phrase without even saying it? perhaps the films they used it? but that is another story for an entirly different forum.) ;D

Great job indeed! Also the saddle bag seems to be the same in FOD and FAFDM(see the pictures with the boy and don miguel). Any clue of its presence in GBU?

I thought I saw everything in these movies.

I can't believe I've never noticed any holes until now.

Well done!

I've read this thread about Clint's threads a few times now, and I've gotta say Sadhill, it's great stuff. One of the things that makes using the internet such a surprising pleasure.

Great work! I knew about holes on the back side of the poncho, I noticed them in GBU, but your explanation of the colour is excellent. And nice stills.

There are two kinds of films in this world:those which stay, even when their genre is forgotten, and those which don't.
