Why we don't see the attack of the fed bank?

The movie lasts 3h45, however we don't see the attack of the fed bank. We  only see the aftermeath and the entrance of the bank. The characters speak about it, but the audience has to imaginate it.
 Don't you think, that SL choose the solution of facility , and the movie loose an opportunity concerning action and realism. Maybe SL should have shorten a little some scenes, to add this one who could have been a really climatic and dramatic action moment. As it is the movie is good but more abstract, more intellectual. I don't like in a movie when you talk about a thing but you don't see the thing.
And how it is in the book?

Probably the same reason we don't see the train shootout in OUATITW.

Huh? There WAS'NT any Federal Bank job, was there? It was planned, but it was all a con to get Noodles to "betray" his buddies (which he obligingly did, the putz) so it never came off. The job that went bad was something else entirely, a routine bootlegging operation which had nothing to do with the bank. Or are we talking about a different movie?

Yes, the gang were supposedly ambushed on the night of their last bootlegging job. We see the truck over turned in the rain, with booze barrles on fire, so they never get to "do" the bank job.
