Please don't compare Heat to The Town, which is cheap imitation from what I've seen.

This scene is shown by the US military and law enforcement during training for new recruits, calling the scene unrealistic is a really silly take. The movie unfortunately influenced the North Hollywood shootout two years later, which was basically a real life version of Heat's shoot-out.

As for realism, in Heat's specific case the blend of cinema/entertainment and realism is unparalleled. Entertainment is never sacrificed for realism either.

The fact that I may be the only person here that thinks Heat is a full blown masterpiece is insanity.

Claudia, we need you to appear in LOST COMMAND. It's gonna revolutionize the war genre..

Heat is a full blown masterpiece, and Michael Mann is one of the greatest living directors. I was watching Ali recently. The 30 minute montage sequence at the beginning is just outstanding film making in every way.

Anyone else here reading ?Heat 2??

Is this a good time to mention that I really, really, really like the shoot-out in Baby Driver?

No, absolutely no ...

Well, I prefer The Town to Heat. It's the more entertaining flic. And better acted. Pacino was in Heat just as bad as he often was in his later days, and De Niro hasn't kept much of his charisma too, but is at least still tolerable.

And I still think the street shoot-out is not realistic.

Wow wow wow.

I'm not a huge fan of Heat (I would say I mostly don't really like it) but it's wrong to compare it to a TV grade movie that shouldn't even me mentioned ever again like The Town. There is a difference between cinema (either good or bad) and content.

I am a huge fan of Wright but baby Driver is his least convincing effort to date. It hasn't been "finished" to me.

I rarely watch films for content. And I know a lot of TV films which are much better than certain famous cinema films. But The Town never reminded me of things which are more typical for TV stuff. It's an 8/10 actually ... while Heat stays at 7

Please TH don't shoot Stanton, he's a nice fellow but the summer heat wave messed up his brain. He'll be back in shape shortly (probably with a brand new Stanton cut for Heat that will put it a whole point above The Town).

Hmm, but a Stanton cut for The Town? How's about that?

There are 2 quite different versions available, so there's enough material for a try ...

Let's be clear: I won't be discussing The Town any longer. What's next, Gone Baby Gone? Argo? I thought we were discussing movies here!

Yes, and of course, I like Gone Baby Gone.

Argo not so much, but it doesn't hurt ...

Ohh, and coming back to the Sam ... hail Convoy ...

Never seen any of this Ben Affleck stuff.

Convoy is no masterpiece by any stretch, but it is entertaining. I would love to see the extended Japanese cut. Still upset I missed out on that one ... Maybe one of the Studio Canal distributors in another territory will release it.
