Now, you got me. I.e. I've been hearing the main theme for more than 30 years and is my all time favourite with GBU's and Metti una sera a cena's. Expecially the transition from Dell'Orso's solo to the choir refrain always does it for me. I am less convinced by the oboe "a cappella" transition between the string intro and the whistle before the second intro: not up to Morricone's genius for sound (but probably I'm alone in the world thinking he could have done best). The oboe is a half anticipation of the whistle, has not a acustic value for itself. The string are dramatic, the whistle has an ironic, what do I care attitude which together are a reproduction of the two main characters of the movie (or of two attitudes to life). So the oboe where it's at? (Sorry folks, I must have drunk too much Coke. But forgive me, it's Xmas). About the rest of the soundtrack, I don't know (though, I like the Marcia degli straccioni or whatever it is called), but the rest of the music didn't do it for me like FFDM or GBU did it. I haven't heard the soundtrack only watched the movie 7-8 times. So i'll follow the advice of Maestro Banjo and listen to the music separately. I don't think I will make it by the end of the year though.

I said very good for the same reason as Le Bon. I really enjoy the score, but I have to rank it behind GBU and OUATITW.
If nothing else, this score is a departure for Morricone and Sean/John's theme gets stuck in my head easily for days at a time.
