Not as good quality as the color version at the Library of Congress (which wasn't too great in any case), but I guess this is how it must have appeared in its original 1966 airing.

It's about the only way many of us can see it.

I mentioned earlier that I think this would make a great extra feature on a nice Blu-ray release of "The Ballad of Cable Hogue".

Thanks for posting this; I enjoyed watching it.

I guess the old drunk did some good things when he wasn't preoccupied with slo-mo blood n guts  Tongue

It helps to have something like a KAP story to adapt.

This particular story is haunting, and an interesting subject given the oft quoted Peckinpah line, "All I want is to enter my house justified." Justified is what Mr. Thompson (Jason Robards) desires to be, and justification is what he never attains. It drives him mad.

the opening credits say "from the short novel..." Shouldn't that be a "novella" or "novelette," depending on the size?

These terms are vague and interchangable.

Twilight time just announced that they are releasing a BD of "The Killer Elite" together with "Noon Wine" in September

Indeed. Plus The Killer Elite is already available on BD elsewhere. The Ballad of Cable Hogue would have made more sense, but I guess they don't have rights to that one.
