The American scenes in OUATITW and MNIN are amazing to watch. What I find interesting is how you could tell it's the southwest in the U.S. just by the way the sun hits things, like the beginning of MNIN.

I don't think so, unless Genius had some small scenes.

None of the other SW directors reached Leone's stature.

Now if you consider North America...

Then some consider "El Topo" a SW that was shot in Mexico, also if you go with a broad definition, Viva Maria was also shot in Mexico
