The Great Silence is 10 times better than BFTG!!! GS is a masterpiece while BFTG, although a fantastic film, is NOT on the same level.

well I wouldnt call "Silence" a masterpiece. If you think about it, it is a rather simple story and the camera work isnt amazing.
A masterpiece of the genre it is. But a masterwork of filmmaking?.....not so sure.

That's what I meant. GS is not a masterpiece in film-making but it is a masterpiece of the genre.

I must say I have been really enjoying Sartana as of late, but I am going with

"Death rides a horse"
Well thats brilliant to hear-look forward to completing the reconstruction-it would be good if other people could participate-Marco Leone if you're out there!

Did you know it got defeated by Four Of The Apocalypse in a recent poll?
Yes i love that melancholy folky score for both Keoma and Mannaja!

As much as I like Four of the apocalypse and its folk-like music, I must say Keoma is far better film.

The GREAT SILENCE most definitely. Although BULLET and SILENCE are classics deserving of the same attention Leones' films constantly receive, SILENCE is so fresh and in some instances very original. It doesn't preach any political messages or try to have any hidden meanings within the film. It shows what life is really like-then as well as now. Good seldom wins out over evil. I don't recall ANY film where EVERY good character including the main good guy is slaughtered at the close of the film not to mention showing the villain stealing the dead heroes' gun! The gothic atmosphere and the snowbound setting are very unusual as well as the high level of bloody violence which I don't think was as prominant in any other western before this. Also the brief nudity was unusual as I don't remember any sex scenes in any italian westerns(at least none that I've seen)before or after THE GREAT SILENCE. Corbucci deserves much respect not only for being so daring in his film work but also for being the first spaghetti director to use his real name and not a psuedonym in the credits of one of his films.

Both are quirky and take chances but Corbucci really loved doing these movies and Guilio Questi did not. I've seen DJANGO KILL! one time but THE GREAT SILENCE is worth at least 10 viewings so TGS has my vote.
