Seems like posts are all the rage lately. Who's your favorite non-Leone SW director? I honestly can't decide so what does everyone else think?

I wont vote because I sure as hell cannot choose between any of those guys. All of them have there masterpieces all of them have there floppers.

Ferdinando Baldi NEEDS to be up there.

I know one director who should NOT be up there though...
Giuseppe Colizzi.

My guess would be Corbucci will triumph as the victor of this poll...but I shall not vote.

Corbucci.........for the quality and quantity of his work.
Influential, innovative (Django...Great Silence, to name 2)..........& especially for "The Mercenary"...his best.
Sollima...0nly 3 SW..but such terrific films..especially "Face To Face"...which can stand by itself not only as a SW.. but as a Western, period.

The rest...hang somewhat below these 2...Castellari..a good action director, Baldi..willing to take chances, & often succeeding, Giuliano Carnimeo. who gave us Sartana..& combined a good whodunit w/ the essence of Spaghetti Westerns..& many more..like Garrone, etc.
but Corbucci..& Sollima...seemed to have aimed higher and acheived much more.

whoops. Got confused sorry.

Carmineo has done...

all the official sartana sequels including the one with George Hillton.

They call him cemetary

 Moment to kill

and "the Holy Ghost" series to name a few.

I really like Corbucci's work but it can be very sloppy at times such as in the quick zooms which could possibly be his trademark. I think Sollima's work is much more professional looking and is somewhat on the level of Leone. Corbucci, on the other hand, made brilliant films but as I said, his work at times looks rather amateurish.

In conclusion, I don't know.

nobodies considering Tonino? The man directed some fine films like "Day of Anger".

the direction of "My name is Nobody" is probably better than anything Corbucci or Sollima could muster(have not seen Face to Face). my opinion of course.

as for "Nobody" There is that nasty rumor about Leone having a hand in the direction of the film, which could be a reason that it is an excellently directed film. But rumors aside, it is still Tonino's.

also I am not a big fan of Gianfranco Parolini(Frank Kramer) but others will come by asking him to be up on the list. And even though His films are "so-so" for me, I do believe he should be up there. he deserves it.
He directed...
the first Sartana film.
and all of the Sabata films
among others...

also Peacemaker I would like to say this is a very interesting poll you have made. This will cause much debate and many a conversation on here I am sure. And that is just what we need. Thanks alot amigo. ;)

Sollima and Castellari are probably my favorite non-leone italian directors, but that is boosted immensely by their 70's crime films... And as far as the spaghetti westerns go corbucci hands down. navajo joe, great silence, django, companeros... can't be beat.

Harmonica: So, you're not a businessman after all.
Frank: Just a man.
Harmonica: An ancient race...
