I wonder if it is the widescreen version  with english subtitles (dumb questions?)

It will be widescreen, a 2.35:1 extensively restored anamorphic transfer.

No word on the languages and/or subtitles it will include (yet)

According to british DVD sites, the UK r2 DVD will come out in october. According to www.digitalbits.com a r1 Collector's Edition will come out before the year is over. This has also been confirmed by Paramount. Let's hope it includes the same specs as the french release.

The special features sound great. We've heard Cox and frayling before, but it will be interesting to hear Carpenter and Millius. It seems to me that only recently Americans have started to aknowledge their debt to Leone. Scorcese, notably, never cited Leone in all the dicussions of his inluences until "Gangs of New York" came out and he credited OUATITW as it's major inluence. Anyway, who is Dr. Sheldon Hall?

I think Leone's influence is very evident in every one of Carpenter's films. He really loves to use the entire widescreen scope, basically making Full Screen cropping of his pictures not an option, just like Leone. Also if you haven't heard any of Carpenter's many commentaries, he is one of the most consistently soild and entertaining persons doing these things. Very funny at times yet informative and with a nice 'laid back' demeanor. Also when he's partnered up with others we doesn't hog up the mic and is playful.

Now the latest I've heard is Paramount Germany will also be releasing a limited box set along with the 'standard' 2-DVD set. It will include the 2-DVD set, a harmonica in a leather sack, and the CD soundtrack  housed in a 'fire-branded' wooden box. This box is all tenative though and take it with a grain of salt.

Dr Sheldon Hall is a film historian and lecturer at Sheffield University in England.

He provided a commentary track on the r2 Zulu disc.

Check out the artwork for the English-speaking countries in Europe. Paramount US has not yet decided if they're going this way or not, but I would strongly advise so, it looks fantastic!!!

Wow, I can't wait to get my hands on this one. Actually, it's the best western I've seen and the number of extras look like they really put their back into producing this DVD :D
