Oh. No particular reason, just felt like changing it.

The other individuals on this thread seem to be referring to when I had the screenshot of Paul Scofield in my signature - which I think I changed several months ago.  ::)

That confused me, too...

Well you feel sorry until you see him take massive reprisals toward civilians.

Ah yes, sure. And until I see him brushing his teeth... I wish I knew what made that scene so menacing.

He's only revealed as being really nasty until after the bridge scene, so up until he seems like a very nice character

The glance that makes holes in the silver screen

This dull two dimensional character was by far the worst villain in a Leone movie and the weakist link in DYS-i've seen him in one or two other sw's where he's been totally nonedescript.
Agreed. Totally cartoonish character, in the bad meaning of that word. Dollars-films are all somewhat cartoonish (shooting a cigarette etc.) but it never bothers me; that is the Leone-style, that I love. But Gunther Ruiz is a character I'd expect to see in Robert Rodriguez'  Desperado or OUATI Mexico (that are average movies IMO, trying to be something they are not). I only wonder what would have happened if Leone knew earlier that he was going to direct this film - not only produce. Would he have done something to that character (and the whole script which is lacking in some spots). Would he have changed him, given him more/less screen time, gotten completely rid of him...

Well, maybe Antoine Saint-John just isn't that good of an actor. He's got an imposing appearance but does he have more than one or two lines of dialogue in any of his films? I think he had all of three or four lines in "The Wind and the Lion" despite being in the film quite a bit - until the very end he was just Mr. Menacing Nazi Face. ::)

His eyes reminds me of the guy who played Dr. Joseph Goebbels in Downfall. He's damn ugly.

I believe alot of Germans lived in Mexico during the two World Wars. They faired alot better than their comrades in the Fatherland. He probably changed his last name to Ruiz so the Mexicans can pronounce his name better.

Sorry? For the soldiers on the bridge, yes. But for this SOB who killed James - never. >:D
