Yes I did in one of the above posts. I've only seen bits and pieces(HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!)of FLOWERS & FLESH. The one with the samurai slicing up the girl. I'm not a fan of the shot on video school of filmmaking regardless of country of origin.

oh yeah. forgot sorry.

hey I really want to get my hands on "Death Bed: the bed that eats". I am sure it will be a total let down but I just want to see it to kill curiousity. I hear it is one of the strangest films ever made.

If you enjoy seeing films that make you go-"WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY THINKING!" You should check out MANDINGO and its sequel DRUM. These two will never get a legitimate dvd release in the States(at least I don't think so)particularly in our politically correct climate nowadays. These two are based on the bestselling Faconhurst novels during slavery times. The first film features James Mason in without doubt one of the most offensive roles ever, Boxer Ken Norton, Susan George(who sheds her clothes yet again) and Paul Benedict(of Jeffersons fame). Directed by Richard Fleisher of 20,000 LEAGUES and TORA! TORA! TORA! DRUM is the more exploitable of the two as the first film while highly incendiary tries to remain on a level of "respectability". It stars Ken Norton again, Warren Oates, Pam Grier, Fiona Lewis, Yaphett Kotto, Royal Dano(of countless TV shows) soon to be porn star Rainbeaux Smith and John Colicos, Baltar from Battlestar Galactica as a French homosexual(!). This one's directed by Steve Carver who did BIG BAD MAMA and LONE WOLF McQUADE among others. There's a lot of comedy here as opposed to the doom laden atmosphere of the first only at the end does the movie turn into a bloodbath.

I would imagine the title "Mandingo" suggests something about a "large aspect of the male body"?

Not sure, although they refer to a certain type of slave as a Mandingo in the film. If you see them you'll also be shocked that they both came from a major studio-Paramount! Incidentally, Paramount also released the blaxploitation western LEGEND OF NIGGER CHARLEY starring Fred Williamson. SOUL OF NIGGER CHARLEY was the sequel but I don't know if Paramount released this as well as I've not seen it. When the majors realized that much money could be made from these grindhouse style films they began churning them out too. Only in the 70s-without doubt the most brazen and daring time in cinema history.

Another one to check out from the above list is GALAXY OF TERROR, probably the best ALIEN clone. It has an incredible cast-Edward Albert, Sid Haig, Robert Englund, Erin Moran(Joanie on Happy Days), Ray Walston(My Favorite Martian), Zalman King(who would go on to fame creating the erotic show Red Shoe Diaries)and Playboy Playmate Tafee O'Connell who features in one of the most infamous sequences in horror history where she is raped by a giant maggot. James Cameron did 2nd unit direction as well as set designer.

Here's some more exploitation and drive-in classics if anyone cares to discuss
HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP-supreme monster flick with large dollops of monster gore and starring the mighty Doug McClure and Vic Morrow. Early score from James Horner.
MOTHERS DAY
I DRINK YOUR BLOOD
TOWER OF EVIL-ahead of its time Brit slasher flick set on an island with a fog enshrouded lighthouse. Startling amount of nudity and gore.
PIECES
CHILDREN SHOULDN'T PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS-from the director of the classic BLACK CHRISTMAS(a movie all horror fans should see), PORKYS(!) and A CHRISTMAS STORY(!)
ZOLTAN-HOUND OF DRACULA
TOXIC AVENGER
MAD DOCTOR OF BLOOD ISLAND
BASKET CASE
THE LAST SHARK-Incredibly cheesy and gory carbon copy of JAWS that was so close to the original that Universal got a court injunction to halt the film from ever being shown again. Directed by Enzo Castellari and stars James Franciscus and Vic Morrow
FIGHT FOR YOUR LIFE-jaw dropping entry in the race hate genre about three criminals who bust out of prison only to take a black family hostage and subject them to humiliation and torture. The family eventually overtakes their captors and vengeance is meted out. Bill Sanderson from NEWHART plays the main villain a little too well.
EVILSPEAK-nifty little OMEN-CARRIE clone with Clint Howard, RG Armstrong and Richard Moll.

BASKET CASE is from Frank Hennenlotter from 1982. An excellent sleazy grindhouse classic with an exceptional and disturbing story about a guy who carries his siamese twin brother around in a wicker basket seeking out the doctors that separated them to kill them. Really captures the feel of 42nd Street in NY at the time which sadly, doesn't exist anymore as 42nd street has since been turned into a candy coated, family friendly wonderland. The acting in the film is for the most part pretty bad but the grimy, dirty atmosphere, some impressive gore, a bit of stop motion animation and some very disturbing sequences make for a great slice of sleaze with a side of cheese.

I've not seen ERASERHEAD. Had a chance to once but passed. I'll probably check it out one day but I've never been a big David Lynch fan however I did enjoy his version of DUNE a lot. Saw it in the theater in 84.

There is also a BASKET CASE 2 and 3 with both focusing more on tongue in cheek (dark)humor moreso than the first film.
