I have been reading some old threads on this forum and I came across somebody saying that "Hughes didnt like Giu la Testa".
Is this true? If so what was his review for it like?

And if its not to much trouble could somebody write it out here?

Hughes book, Once Upon a Time in Italy, doesn't even mention OUATITW even though it's one of THE greatest SWs out there. I think Hughes wasn't into Leone's epic style that is missing in the first three films but is somewhat there in the third.

Perhaps he didn't consider it an SW. I think of it as an American western myself (the Italian-language version, on the other hand, is a proper SW).

I agree with the comment about the swearing.  I've got no problem with language in movies, but sometimes it's just unnecessary or inappropriate.

Here, it just seems out of place, especially in a Leone movie.  Maybe it was meant to help characterize Juan, but it just seems vulgar and out of place, IMO.

Yeah in the pocket guide he didn't condider for various reasons OUATITW to be a sw but just one of the great westerns.

It's not merely a question of the different dubs, as this makes clear: http://www.fistful-of-leone.com/forums/index.php?topic=734.0

But even if the audio WAS the only difference, I would still consider them two different films. OUATITW was Leone's attempt to make an American western (hence all the references to Hollywood films, the use of non-Leone elements such as a female lead, etc.) and as such had to be dubbed in English. Yet when the film was dubbed in Italian something was created which is quite different from what happens when you take, say, The Magnificent Seven and give it Italian audio.
