I've been meaning to put this on for ages. While i was last a paying customer to British Sky TV i took the oppotunity of taping The Girl And The General which is a anti-war(world war one) adventure film but very much in the mould and feel of a sw.Its stars Rod Steiger(although not the best i've seen him) and a pretty good score from Ennio Morricone.Don't know who directs offhand but from what i remember its a damn good film! Smiley
Has anyone else seen this?

I've only watched it once but from what i remember a young Italian soldier kidnaps Steiger(a German officer) while stuck behind enemy lines and the whole movie is a series of episodes with them trying not to get caught-theres a bit of humour involving a misbehaving mule or something. For a WW1 movie you don't see any trench warfare, fighting or nuthin' and the party of 3(including the girl thy pick up from somewhere) spend most of the time running around what i presume is Almeria trying to get back home-theres a sad ending i think!
Lots of episodic action involved-but very spaghetti-esque without the gunplay!

Firecracker-check out this link, especially the reviewer comments:-
 http://imdb.com/title/tt0062174/

I watched half an hour last night before going to bed-Steiger is an Austrian(not German) General kidnapped by a young Italian soldier(with the aid of the Girl) for the glory and bounty. There's some good banter between captor and captive with Steiger constantly trying to give the other guy the slip.It seems that the countryside is Italian rather than Almerian. So far as regards Morricone theres resemblences to his later offbeat DYS score as well as GBU-the sombre vocalising fort music especially!
I'll try and watch the rest later!

Theres a scene where the threesome kip down for the night in a ruinous building which reminds me of similar scenery in GBU!

Firecracker The Girl and The General is regularly shown on the pay for(which i now don't!)British TCM channel along with two spaghetti westerns-Ringo And His Golden Pistol and a real obscurity called Son Of A Gunfighter.I've only watched the latter once(i have it on tape) but its quite average i recall-is there anything in Weissers book about it?
