when the madman indio & gang ride into el paso to rob the bank they look like the hell's angels on horseback. CJ pointed out how ramone could horseback sitting straight up. gian maria seems
to be in such "cruise control" on his horse. he looks errect, but unconcious on his hoese when pulling into town, head bobbing around on what looks to be angel eye's horse.

at least angle eye's ? a nasty dude,  a nasty dude w/ a plan. indio is out of his gourd motioning nino for another toke of wacky tobacky.  Grin

I'd say he's a pretty good horseman. In FOD he seems so in control. When he jumps on that horse after meeting Joe he seems like that.

I noticed that too. Clint in this movie didn't look in control. Look how he struggled with the horse after the El Paso bank robbery or when he meets Lee Van Cleef near the mountain pass ( remember? Clint's talking horse!  Grin )

when clint did FOD he had just come from the set of rawhide.  when FFDM started shooting, i'd think clint
had already decided to be a director and his horseback skills wern't up to par.

the only guy i know who rides like gian might be richard forester who has that same stocky build.

Well, Clint does himself 2 stunts with a horse in the dolalr trilogie... In FOD, he stands on the back of his horse, and in GBU, he picks up Eli after the shooting of the 2nd rope. That's not to bad... (I have no idea for the "My mule doesn't like people laugh' ").

Volonte's a good horseman...the best rider I've seen in SW is Gemma...who did his own stunts...having been  a stuntman before starring in westerns.
He does a great stunt in the first Ringo movie..where he dismounts from a galloping horse..that's exceptional.

I've been looking for "Pistol of Ringo" for a while. Hard to find

Clint's allergic to horses so I think I can understand why he's not an expert.

no rumor. i read it in "clint " an unofficial bio.
the book was a good read. found it at the library
and it's fairly dated.

it also mentioned clint suffered from some sort of anxiety attacks that would find him wriggling on the floor of the set.  we all know clint is much more in charge behind the camera.  we all have our limitations ,
as do those  "tell all " bios....which ARE fun to read.  Grin

That's a good topic idea. I won't steal it from you, though. You should start a "Who's your Top 10 extraodinary people?"
