Anyone who lives in the New York/New Jersey area could have watched channel thirteen last night at 9pm. They had a great John Ford/John Wayne documentary that really looked into the lives, films, and politics of the filmmaker and the legend. Great stuff. It included comments from John Milius, Peter Bogdanovich, and even Martin Scorsese.

Wish I had taped it, but anyone who missed it can buy it from channel 13's website. I highly recommend it to ANY Ford/Wayne fan or western fan in general.

It was really good. It reminded me of when I got to see The Searchers in the theater. John Wayne was absolutely sick in that movie, you saw something evil in his eyes.

Is this the PBS doco? There was a review in Variety as it's screening at the classics section at Cannes.

Yes it is. It was a great documentary. It showed the film-maker and his star as they rose through the ranks to become American legends. Great stuff.

There is a doco on a disc somewhere which shows Pappy and the Duke revisiting Monument Valley in the 70's and going over memories of scenes shot there.

Yeah, leone admirer, I picked that up on one of those $4.99 dvd's that have four or five westerns on a couple discs.  Not of the best quality obviously, but it has interviews with the Duke, James Stewart, and Henry Fonda, a brief but funny appearance by Andy Devine, and Pappy even shows up for awhile.

And I thought that PBS American Masters doc was excellent as well.  It was great to see some of that behind the scenes footage of Duke and Ford.  I knew the two of them had an odd relationship, but never to that extent.
