definitely underrated, I personally love all of carpenters almost-zombie flicks... the thing, the fog, they live, prince of darkness, they all have people possessed by something acting abnormally to destroy others and it's great, he does it very well... this one might start off a bit slow, but by the end it's really hard hitting and has amazing visuals.

GHOSTS OF MARS-Carpenters remake of his own ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13, another example of classic 70s action cinema which also features villains who act very zombie like.

Of course, GOM isn't a patch on AOP13, nor was the actual remake so I hear. I refused to see it.

I've never seen ghosts of mars, and i don't consider the villains of Assualt to be all that zombie-like, the plot and atmosphere is very night of the living dead-like, but the villains themselves don't much act like zombies. so i don't consider it with the rest of the group, but I still love it.

unfortunately I think prince of darkness is as close to a straight zombie flick as we're gonna get from carpenter, it'd be nice to see one though.

Well, the main ones you see walk around with blank looks on there faces and show no emotion or pain even when they are shot so to me they appear in a trance like state which is the definition of a zombie in the classical sense.

I actually think that the best term would be "possessed"-because they don't really have the strenght and durability of the real walking dead(corpses)...The good guys terminate them pretty easily(throwing them out of the window, stabing them in the head,...)
