I wonder why Leone would release the final film with an ugly cut in the middle when John and Juan get off the train. The frame flip-flops and we've missed some 2-3 minutes of conceivable footage. Did Leone just forget to shoot the footage, was it lost, was it edited out for length (if so, it's really stupid)? It's one of the really small things that near rouined the film (i.e. making it inferior to the previous four films).

Let's also remember that the version shown here in the states is the heavily cut version. I think we're missing a good 30 or 40 minutes of film. I really want to see this movie again, I only saw it once two years ago but I remember that I liked it a lot. I got the CD soundtrack. One of Morricone's greatest works.

many have a problem with the "flip-flop" transition. I dont.
Its a funny little tool that signals the end of act 2 and the start of the final act.

This ugly transition is also in the 157 minute Italian version so it must have been made under Leone's supervision

why does everybody hate the flip flop?

The multiple poster close-ups with the gunshots in FAFDM is just as silly. I never hear anybody complaining about them. I hear only praise.

I don't mind the flip-flop, can't say I've even noticed it before. But then, I'm not very hung up on the conventions of cinematic grammar, so called, that Hollywood is always trying to foist on us. Crossing the line? Who gives a rat's ass?
