In everyone's life there is a "Summer of '42"

« : August 12, 2006, 01:23:48 PM »

Silenzio quoted famous last lines of various movie in another thread, which gave me the idea of other members quoting last lines in films and others must determine which film it was from. I am still thinking...but will post one later. Any others?

Does it have to be last lines? Or any lines from a movie?

I guess it could be either, but I thought it would be more challenging to choose the very last line, which typically is the most memorable.

I'll do the same one I have on my other thread:

"THE MEDIATOR BETWEEN THE HANDS AND THE HEAD MUST BE HE HEART!"

It's not a spoken line, but a title card. If nobody can come up with that one for a while, I'll give more clues, but I'm sure somebody will know it.

Anyway, here's the last line from a real classic as well:

"Throw that junk."

It probably won't take you too long. If it takes too long for a film-lover like yourself to come up with that one, it will be pretty ironic.

" I'm going to stay right here and fight for this lost cause! Even if the room gets filled with lies like these, and the Taylors and all their armies come marching into this place. "

What film is this from...shouldn't be too difficult.

I don't know it . . . should I be embarrassed.  :-[

Anyways, people might not realize my "Throw that junk." quote, because it's not nearly as memorable as the final image: a certain something being burned. As a matter of fact, much more memorable is the second to last line, so memorable that if I said it, everybody would remember the film instantly.

No, it's just that it's a well-known movie and it was referenced in The Simpsons so I thought you all would know it, even if you didn't see the film.

"Throw that junk."
For that one I meant Citizen Kane.

Anyway, this one should be easy:

"I see all this potential, and I see squandering. God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off."

Yes, Citizen Kane is very correct.

But WHY can't I think of that one you said . . . dang . . . I know it'll come to me.

Is it something with Michael Douglas, or am I completely off the mark?
