The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly's or The Bridge on the River Kwai? Both brilliant movies, both explosions memorable, classic scenes! What's your opinion?

Neither, the DYS bridge explosion knocks those two out of the park.

I have a strange feeling we have covered this topic before...

I thought it would be GBU and DYS when I saw the title of this thread - and I thought: "Tough choice."
There's the presence of the characters at the bridge in GBU, which makes it special for me (at least I think it's the reason), and the DYS one is of course much more effective...

There are two kinds of films in this world:those which stay, even when their genre is forgotten, and those which don't.

Sorry, but my question was what is better. The explosion in Kwai, or TGTBATU? I didn't say what was the best one in movie history.

I like the explosion in KWAI because it means the whole sorry mess of a film is about to finally stagger to an end - like a creaky old man in desperate need of a comfy chair, and that we can finally get up and go and and watch something more interesting instead.

Like paint drying.

Leone's explosion is everything KWIA's isn't, thrilling, dangerous (look how close the debris falls to Wallach's arse (or his stunt doubles) and even amusing. Lean's version is so bloodless and standoffish he may as well have filmed a model instead of spending thousands of pounds filming it for real.

"Madness!"

If I was one of the film's backers who'd paid good money for that, it's certainly what I would have been whimpering at the end.
