What endangered wildlife resides in the forested areas?
I am a part-time wildlife biologist (second career, more of a hobby) and I really appreciate the unspoiled, wild corners of our planet.
I understand there may be remnant populations of otters
in the unpolluted rivers and wetland areas in your country.
I am active in many conservation groups devoted to saving the European otters, along with the 12 other species.

Not in that river I showed you, but there really are otters in our rivers, as well as beavers now again. Bobcats are coming back, I was at a presentation concerning it, it's really interesting. Unfortunatelly some people kill them, or they are killed on roads. The man said it's quite in balance right now, but anytime it could be spoiled. Another animal is sea eagle/white tailed eagle (or how is it called in English...)
In that area of Doubrava there are for example crayfish or wagtails, or some species of fish. Not much big animals, but surely also important.
I'm sure there are more of endangered species, but I'm not a biologist, so what I know is just knowledge of ordinary person who's generally quite interested in nature.

BTW, to the Hostel... I haven't seen it, but I've heard, that there are songs by a Czech pop singer, who made his career in 80's, during communism, and probably had to have a deal with communistic party to be allowed to perform. That's why some people don't like him. I don't like him, because his songs are terribly catchy and silly - and if you sing such songs all the time, it's really annoying.

But maybe I'm wrong and have mistaken him for someone else... I don't care about Czech pop singers too much.

Bringing this back, with a hope I might eventually add some new photos... right now I only post link to Robert Fulghum's impressions from our country. I think it's quite interesting - and funny. Just don't forget he exaggerates from time to time.
