I watched this movie and i have to say for me its better as a comedy. It was pretty funny the way Pacino talked and acted (i mean hes like bulletproof until a shotgun shoots him).Although my biggest problem is De Palma.I just hate the guy.He just makes crap after crap.I will give props to him for The Untouchables because that was fairly decent.I just dont see why Scarface is such a big deal. Its a boring movie.

Agreed. His accent is silly.

I don't enjoy seeing senseless bloodshed being glorified in this movie.  Tongue

the movie never really attempts to be real. and the movie wouldn't be much without pacino. so what if he sounds nothing like cuban, it's still a good performance.

Thank God (Old or New Testament?) so many people on the forum agree on this one. Why is De Palma still working?!? He is a shockingly awful film maker who's never made a decent picture in his entier long career. No matter how many disasterous stinkers he churns out (BONFIRE OF THE VANITIES anyone?) he bounces back. SCARFACE is so stupid and overblown it does indeed come accross as a comedy.

It has to be said though that Pacino's mannerisims do often skate perilously towards the silly. His reaction on leaning that Diane Keaton has had an abortion in GODFATHER II springs to mind. That daft little business of baring his teeth over and over again like a little doggy never fails to raise an utterly miss-placed giggle in an otherwise superb peice of work.

But SCARFACE? Utter garbage.

The movie is definitely overrated, but I love the final showdown when Tony gets taken down by the death squad.  Sure it's completely over the top, but just the way Montana faces off against them is cool.  And he was pretty shot up before the dude with the shotgun finished him off.  He'd already dropped his assault rifle/grenade launcher.

I've only seen it twice or so--and while I agree the accent is a bit ridiculous--I enjoy it a lot.

I just thought the accent was silly, as for the film it's entertaining but it is very overrated.

Wouldn't watch it more then twice though.
