Just got back from the theatre to see this one. Excellent film!!!!

It's about two magicians who loath each other and seek to destroy the others career by sabotaging their acts.

I'm slightly over simplifying (there is a lot more going on in this very complicated plot) but you get the idea.

I advise all to see it.

Just listened to the spoilers podcast on this film over at Slate, and it sounds totally whack. Also, it seems the plot was stolen from an Orson Scott Card story. Add the annoying Christian Bale, and I'll give this one a miss.

I'll just go on to develop my argument a bit. The film has several problems of logic, apparently, that would make it very difficult to enjoy. I'll have to avoid being too specific so as not to spoil the fun of those who feel seeing a film without knowing what happens first is important (this, in fact, is only true of bad films, which The Prestige certainly is). Let me just explain that this is a film about rival magicians played by Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman. Bale comes up with an amazing trick that Jackman is determined to imitate. He goes to Nicolai Tesla for a science fiction solution, deciding, I guess, that pretending an amazing technological feat passed off as a  magic trick is more likely to make him successful than simply patenting the amazing technological feat (logic problem #1). Also, Jackman sets Tesla the task of solving the problem a certain way, but Tesla is unable to do this. However, Tesla is able to come up with an alternative solution, one that would be several orders of magnitude more difficult to perfect than the one originally proposed (logic problem #2). Finally, Jackman successfully uses the technology night after night, in the midst of large audiences, when it would be necessary only to use the technology once, at his convenience, to recreate the condition that allows Christian Bale to do the trick the way he does it. The fact that this doesn't occur to the Jackman character (in spite of the fact he doesn't know Bale's secret), and that he has to come up with an elaborate and disgusting mechanism to deal with the side effects of his technology, is logic problems #3, 4, and 5.

I absolutely hate films that say, Hey, this is only a movie, it doesn't have to be logical.

According to his first post...no he hasn't.

Which if that's true it automatically throws his credibility right out the window.

I've never been a crack addict, either, but my opinion on that practice needn't be discounted (I think it's bad).

Humm,  there are people out there who call this: "movie magic". Others " Hollywood crap". That should be enough, shouldn't it?

The Prestige (2006) - 7.5/10

Not a masterpiece in my opinion but a very interesting and entertaining movie, that didn't leave me bored.

So far, I never had any problem with the film's lack of logic. It worked, not because of Hollwood Magic, but because the characters are obsessed with being a better magician than each other. So everything else in the world is just a mean for them to become a better magician. So who cares about anything that happens outside of it. But with this:

#2). Finally, Jackman successfully uses the technology night after night, in the midst of large audiences, when it would be necessary only to use the technology once, at his convenience, to recreate the condition that allows Christian Bale to do the trick the way he does it.

... DJ ruined the movie for me.

Still an interesting movie. But like ANY Nolan's film that is not Memento and that is not garbage (Batman Begins), it's cold, uninvolving and overated (but hey, good for him, I have nothing against the guy).

Well, Following is also quite good, but after Memento he failed to meet my expectations.
