I agree with italian SWdb: uninspired though not bad (it couldn't be, being a Castellari). A confederate dirty (half)dozen must steal a million dollar in gold from a Union arsenal. Each one is a specialist and Frank Wolff plays the bad one. Nothing you haven't seen before, though Castellari knows his trade better than 90% of the other SW's practitioners. So you have the ritual scenes of brawls, of shootings, of union prison (the same one seen in And God Said to Cain?) and they are impeccable as to shooting (some shots are spectacular) and editing and music. But there's nowhere a sparkle of originality, so the situations tend to repeat themselves and you don't want to see more of them.
Five Men Army keeps being, in spite of its flaws, the best one in the SW commando department I've seen so far.

Don't really like the army cammando stuff in sw which is one of the reasons why I have stayed away from this film for a bit. The other reason being my copy is awful to look at.

It's the line Wolff delivers to Connors when charging him with the mission.
Italian western titles are of a class unto themsleves. There are two which cannot be rendered effectively in foreign languages that I have always liked: Gli fumavano  le colt (His Colts Were Smoking) and Campa carogna la taglia cresce (Keep on livin' you scum, the reward is growing). The first refers to an italian expression where colts is substituted by b...s, meaning that one whose b...s are smoking is a very competent, special person. The other one is because there an italian saying "Campa cavallo che l'erba cresce" ("Keep on living, horse, grass will grow") which refers to an action to be taken at once and which is instead deferred undefinitely.

I added a poll and a trailer for this one at my Eurowestern page, so would be great if anyone that has seen it could post their vote (I've got it but not yet seen it).

I have the same problem too with my copy but i guess until a decent dvd release emerges (i got VHS sourced copy from Cinecity) we'll just have to make do.I remember the footage of this film shown as part of a special feature documentary on the Run Man Run looks great.
Despite the viewing/muffled audio problems i still thought Kill Them All And Come Back Alone was semi-decent but i've also recently seen Castelari's Seven Winchesters For A Massacre too and this was a better film! Wink

Finally got to see a decent copy (Wild East dvd) and I enjoyed it very much.
The opening is wonderful but the movie was kinda sleep inducing during the scenes after the intro and before the fort raid/attack. After the attack things thankfully pick up.
7/10

would have been an 8/10 had there been a good score.

Also, I don't think I buy that Conners was able to head back to the fort to stash the loot without being caught by his cohorts, but who cares?

There is a great special feature where Ken Wood talks about his entire SW career and a few early Steve Reeves peplum efforts.
It was interesting to hear his not-so flattering remarks about his fellow actors (a treat seeing as many actors tend to "ass kiss" when asked about their peers) such as Steffen being an ego-maniac, Reeves being an overly jealous man and his suspicions of Milian being gay "or at least not a real man".

According to him he also had an "affair" (he played footsie with her under a poker table and that is about as far as it went) with Ty Hardin's wife Marlene Schmidt (miss Universe 1961).

Overall the best (and longest! 45 minutes!) interview I've seen from Wild East
