Do we really want to see Franco Nero with curly hair?

Do we really want to see Nero imitating Terence Hill, but being rather stiff legged whilst bouncing around compared to Hill or Gemma?

Are we really interested to get the confirmation that Donati and Vincenzoni shouldn't have tried to write a comedy?

Do we really want to see a Castellari comedy?

And if he does one, why there are less fistfights than in his "serious" SWs, now that he made the type of films in which fistfights are never out of place?

Do we really want to see silly western comedies instead of real westerns?

So many questions, so little answers ...

In fact it ain't that bad. It was lavishly produced (in relation to the usual SW budget), and was probably better directed than several of Castellari's better westerns. It ain't very funny, but was a moderate success in Italy nevertheless.
I especially like a slapstick scene with Nero on a bike trying to escape 3 gunmen on horses, which is slightly hilarious.

It is first of all a comedy and only in 2nd regard also a western, so I would recommend Cipolla Colt only for the real trainspotters amongst the SW fans.

I've never seen it, like you I'm partial to serious Westerns.

marmota if you like Comedy Westerns watch:

"The Hallelujah Trail" with Burt Lancaster & Lee Remick and "Going South" with Jack Nicholson & Mary Steenburgen, and "North To Alaska" John Wayne, Ernie Kovacks, Capuchin,  my wife also likes "McKilntock" John Wayne & Maureen O'Harra also "The Villain" with Kirk Douglas. Afro

Thank you for the recommendations, CJ!

Also, I've noticed my sister rated this 4/5 on CSFD, and I've remembered she said something like "It's really good for its genre, it's just not my cup of tea, so if I'm to be fair, I should give it that rating."

I've read only the last couple replies...

has anybody mentioned the fantastic soundtrack?

This has similarities to the Providence films being that we have genre heavy weights (Nero and Milian) headlining looney Tune esq. Westerns.

Thinking back, this has a lot of common with the later films by the makers of Lemonade Joe, Adéla ještě nevečeřela and Tajemný hrad v Karpatech, although it has less of the... steampunk?, and obviously still works within the confines of a SW (just like Adéla is a whodunnit), though it stretches them a lot.
