terribly sad  Cry

I was in Boston on Patriots Day in 2004. Patriots Day is a holiday celebrated in Massachusetts and Maine, on the third Monday in April, commemorating the first battles of the American Revolution.

Two long-standing Patriots Day traditions in Boston are the Boston Marathon -- the world's oldest annual marathon -- and the Boston Red Sox playing an early home game at Fenway park, starting at 11 AM.

I was there in 2004, saw the Yankees play in Fenway; as you leave the stadium, you see the runners go right by the stadium; it is a mass of humanity (took us about an hour to get the three blocks from the stadium to the train station); and as we were going on the train/streetcar (the train is on street level), we saw the marathon runner go by.

At yesterday's marathon, 2 bombs exploded; at least 3 dead and 140 injured. There's no word yet on who the perpetrators are.

I just hope the injured are healed quickly, the families of all victims can find comfort, the perpetrators are caught and torn apart limb by limb, and that the world will soon have peace  Cry

I had a few friends running in the Marathon, but everyone I knew came out okay.

Another senseless tragedy. Way too much violence in America this year.

one suspect dead, the other suspect, his brother is on the loose. They killed an MIT security officer last nite and critically wounded a police officer.
Boston and its suburbs are in complete lockdown now. All colleges, public schools, public transportation is closed. Everyone is asked to remain in their home and lock the doors, answering for no one but the police, as they conduct a massive, house-to-house search for this bastard http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/04/19/gunshots-reported-on-mit-campus/

apparently, he is a 19-year old Muslim from Chechnya who has lived in the US for a while and went to school here

I was following this very closely today. Very unsettling and scary. No evidence to indicate it was a wider conspiracy, which means these two must be first-grade psychopaths (as if this country doesn't have enough already) The reactions of their family members was the strangest part.

One of my old high school friends blogged this today. She was running in the Marathon and missed the bombing by just a few minutes.

Thank God they got the bastard http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/04/21/second-boston-bombing-suspect-under-heavy-guard/

What a terribly sad week. 4 innocent people dead, over 180 injured, all victims of Islamist terrorism.

I  hope that it ends here, and doesn't inspire any other filthy bastards. I would have just loved to see that ugly weasel's face as he was dragged, bloody and wounded with his tail between his legs, out of that boat where he was cowering like the filthy rat that he is. I'm not sure what's better for the guy: an excruciatingly slow and painful death now, or spending the next 50-60 years -- whatever is left of his worthless miserable life -- rotting away in a little cell, no doubt in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day. But hopefully he won't be alone  when he showers.

Once we get whatever useful info he may have, I hope he dies quickly, because that would probably be easiest on the victims and their families -- to have him gone and finished. Either way, whether he dies this week in a hospital, in a few years on the lethal injection gurney, or in many decades in prison, the fires of hell will await him.

I just pray that the injured recover quickly. As for the families of the dead, there are no words to describe what they must be going through; all I can say is I hope they find comfort quickly and that God eases their pain.

(Having just watched Dead Man Walking recently, I can't help but ask myself if Susan Sarandon, et al. would hold his hand and cry and say "I love you" when he is strapped on the gurney).

 Cry

so even if this bastard lives, he may never be able to speak.......

http://hamodia.com/2013/04/21/boston-terrorist-hospitalized-unable-to-speak/

here is an earlier Reuters article discussing how Russia -- which is fighting Islamist terrorists in its conflict with Chechnya -- alerted the FBI a couple of years ago that the older brother may have been involved with Islamist terror groups

 http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/04/20/us-usa-explosions-boston-russia-idUSBRE93J0F620130420

here is a nice Washington Post article of the police investigation to learn the bombers' identity http://hamodia.com/2013/04/21/how-the-boston-bombing-investigation-unfolded/

and a WaPo timeline of events from when the bombers' identity was revealed, until the the younger one's capture http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/how-string-of-events-involving-tsarnaev-brothers-unfolded/2013/04/19/629d19c6-a929-11e2-8302-3c7e0ea97057_story.html

The most insane thing is that the brothers happened to have visited a 7-11 that was later robbed; so when, after the robbery, cops were viewing surveillance video of the store, they saw on the video that the suspects visited that very store earlier!

if anyone is interested in a brief rundown of what we can expect as far as the legal proceedings, here is a nice piece by Jeffrey Toobin http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/comment/2013/04/legal-questions-about-dzhokhar-tsarnaev.html

Just saw the movie Patriots Day. Directed by Peter Berg. Lead perfprmances by Mark Wahlberg as a Boston cop and Kevin Bacon as the lead FBI investigator.

This is the story of the Boston Marathon bombings and subsequent search for the jihadist bastards who perpetrated it.

pretty good as far as that goes. at the end, shmaltzy stuff about patriotism and love, interviews with the real-life victims. That stuff is good for a tv documentary, but - sorry to be sacreligious here - it sort of doesn't intetest me in a movie.

The performances are very good by the law-enforcement personnel. The two bombers, decent not great. There is a limit to how good a movie like this can be. I guess that with a story like this, which happened recently and which everybody knows, they had to be as truthful as possible. Pretty  good for what it is.

7.5/10
