Just saw Ingmar Bergman's thought- provoking and moving "Wild Strawberries" for the first time.
Excellent film. One of Bergman's less despondent films.
  Highly recommended  Wink

Did you catch Kurosawa's influence in this film?

This should have been posted in the Off-Topic forum. Unless Wild Straberries had to do with Leone.

To be honest, I haven't seen a Kurosawa film Embarrassed
but I will make a concerted effort to watch his films. I guess I am still a novice when it comes to film study, but I am slowly
learning Wink

I rarely visit the Other Films because I've only seen a handfull of SWs so I look for contemporary or other genre movies in the off topic.

Agreed. Good man!

But don't worry, geoman, we all make mistakes.

That means you are going to make a great discovery. As a Leone fan, "Yojimbo" is a must.

The dream scene in "Wild Strawberries" was inspired by the dream scene of Kurosawa's "Drunken Angel". A young yakuza played by Toshiro Mifune has a similar nightmare that has something to do with death.

 Wink

I haven't seen this one, I saw Seventh Seal. According to Geoman, that one probably is despondent. But I liked it so much that I bought the DVD. Wink I don't buy neither films nor books if I already don't know I like them or am sure that I would like them.

There are two kinds of films in this world:those which stay, even when their genre is forgotten, and those which don't.

Like Marmota I have only seen "The Seventh Seal" which I really enjoyed.

I have also seen the one where the nurse must take care of a patient but I can't recall the title Undecided

If it's in B&W, it's called "Persona".

I'm not much of a Bergman fan, but Wild Strawberries isn't bad. My favorite one, though, is probably The Magician.

We agree on that, DJ. Though I saw it again a month ago and wasn't so enthusiastic as the first time.

You guys have to see "Cries and Whispers", if you haven't. It's solemn but visually breathtaking.

Don't care for it. You may be correct about its visual qualities, but all that Swedish angst emoting puts me off. Can't stand Bergman's "tortured" characters.
