This 1971 flick tries, unsuccessfully, to blend italian thriller motifs l'Argento with SW. What is missing is ideas and dexterity to develop those few starting points it brings into play. Money there was (it is not a Fidani cheapie) so only the director can be blamed if he produced a weak result. The story revolves around a couple of twins, one good the other bad and a misterious (but you've guessed who is it after a couiple of seconds) masked man. The evil brother and his gang heist a stagecoach a couple of times, the good brother got the blame and gets in jail. But he will put things in order, evil brother and masked fella are kaput in the end.
Now, this fella kills the leather handicraft who has made the mask for him: why didn't he order one from another city? Or why didn't he just wear a handkerchief to hide his identity?  Of course, the director just wanted to have Belfagor in the movie, without bothering to justify this presence. And so it goes for the rest of this tenseless movie.
The soundtrack is much above average, a surprise for those who think that Piccioni could only make those string-laden tunes for Sordi movies (well, 2 or 3 of them are evergreens, who were sung also by Mina: here's one:

Still the style is that of thrillers not of SW. And, though very effective, I don't think they would stand repeated hearings.
