My crappy old VHS copy of this film was eaten by my VCR today! Grin Now a future DVD purchase is almost certain.

I completely agree. Besides, the British know how to make a good quality DVD ( UK DYS rules! ) unlike here in America where we'll probably get a bare-bones DVD release.

Did you get it out of it? I remember when our old cassette recorder ate our Beatles record... it was really hard to get it out of it. Though I don't know how VCR works, we never had it! Grin
Good luck with your purchase. I hope it will be available here soon...

There are two kinds of films in this world:those which stay, even when their genre is forgotten, and those which don't.

It's Sony now, probably distributed by Fox in the States. Only negative points about the R2 that I can cite are the trimming of the horse fall by the BBFC and the lack of original Mono.

I can't see a single fault with the UK R2 SE DVD.

Its merely a technical thing really, I have heard rumours about music cues being in the wrong place but as this is the Leone film I am the least familiar with I can't confirm or deny it.

Yeah, there are incorrect music cues, but I don't mind that too much. Most of the incorrect cues are just a few seconds of music.

When I saw the film on that particular DVD (SE), the sound kept going in and out. At times I couldn't make out what was being said on screen. Also the sound for the dialogue is censored partially, I guess they couldn't get an original soundtrack.

The older MGM DVD without the last flashback is pretty much perfect in the sound department. The image is pretty damn good too.

But I'm still waiting for a US release.
