DYS did also. Juan's theme was March of the Beggars and Sean's theme was Invention for John.

FFDM to a lesser extent. Clint's character had the brief flute solo, LVC had the sprang on that instrument ( forgot it's name ), and GMV had the guitar beats.

DYS did also. Juan's theme was March of the Beggars and Sean's theme was Invention for John.

And a discordant, clanking motif is associated with Gunther Ruiz.

But "Invention for John" is used for the title sequence way before Sean makes his first appearance and also for Juan's gang sleeping in the carriage.

The string instrument used for Mortimer is called Jews harp.

Well, the opening credits is a presage of things to come, meaning Sean. And also when Juan's kids are sleeping, Sean's in the carriage with them.

Dave Jenkins is right, I forgot about Gunther Ruiz's theme. And Sean's two friends in Ireland have the Giu La Testa theme.

I think its a guitar theme (Columba's) but I'd have to pop in the DVD to tell you for sure, don't have a CD of the sountrack.

The string instrument used for Mortimer is called Jews harp.

But in Japan it's called a koukin

Isn't it amazing what kind of crap you can find out on Wikipedia?

I was watching Mercenary today and I think Columba's theme might've been during the scene after the wedding when Paco and Columba are in the room together. You hear a signature-Morricone slow, classical guitar piece playing.
