Some test footage shot this afternoon in a couple minutes with my little brother:

There is a lack of stability when the tripod is high, I guess I'd better put the tracks on something high (trestle) rather than a high tripod on the dolly. Otherwise, it rocks.

Teaser of the new webisode of RAPACES: http://www.vimeo.com/15077360
(the right thread to talk about it is here: http://www.fistful-of-leone.com/forums/index.php?topic=8484.msg142077#new )

Just posting it here since all the travelling you see in it are done with my home made dolly. As you can see, it brings a lot of production value. It's not as smooth as it can be, but we're on SAND there. I wish I would have used it more, but most of the action took place on a steep slope made of sand. We could have used it with great results, but it would have slowed down the production workflow far too much.

Looks very good indeed!
CONGRATS!

The only thing I would change is the music.
It's not wild enough and sounds artificial.
Try 'real' music, folklore, Mexican - anything..

Hey, thanks!
The music is original music, composed and played on computer. Still don't have the budget for paying musiciens to my (great) composers  Undecided

Yes I know. Neither have I...

But you can check Jamendo.com for instance. It takes
a lot of time to listen through a lot of crap but I found
8 very good tunes for my last film there (from all over the world).

Another way is to ask semi-professional musicians. Sometimes
they are happy when their music shows up ANYWHERE
and they go for a small fee...
There are so many small bands and groups who play
locally all over the countries.

Cool link!
I used one of these done by the good old John Baldwin (sounds familiar, old members?) on one of my first short movies. It worked pretty well (you still lack one dimsension of stabilization) on a light consumer cam. It could still work on a heavier camera with a few adaptations in order to achieve a better built in quality. However, I always found that shoulder stabilizer work better... even if it only means "put the tripod on your shoulder" Smiley
