I'm unsure as to whether or not this post is missplaced, forgive me if it is.  After watching Once Upon A Time in America, I feel like I have been missing out on so much with regard to films. Though, I want to go on and 'analyze' some of Sergio Leone's previous work, I would like to see more from others and from different genres.

Can anyone suggest other filmmakers or films that are classic but also give the sense of complexity, purpose, have true reason to be 'dissected'?
(Movies today seem to be filled with so much 'fluff', its hard to tell what's supposed to be for adults. The advance in technology has made them forget one needs a strong storyline to create a film.)

Thanks in advance.

I'll second that, David Lynch movies are equally both ambiguous and complex they draw you into a different reality.  Start with "Blue Velvet", you won't be disappointed.
