Indeed.

1966, THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY

The Oscar? John Barry for BORN FREE. Well, at leat I can hum the tune. Still wishy washy guff though.

1968, ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST

The Oscar? John Barry. Again! For THE LION IN WINTER.
Anybody at all remember a single note of this music? Or even a single shot from the film?

1971. GIU LA TESTA

The Oscar? Michel Legrand for THE SUMMER OF '42. Jeezuz! Or gettaefukyacunt!!! as we'd say in Scotland.

1984. ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA

The Oscar? Maurice Jarre for A PASSAGE TO INDIA. Anybody know how this goes? Not even Groggy I suspect.

So the Academy? Useless bunch of utter gits. If I was Ennio I'd tell 'em where to stick it, but I suspect he is too much of a gentleman.

Yeah, the Academy is an embarassment.

If he is getting it for how famous his scores are, than I suppose he still should have got it much earlier...

He didn't get nominated for Once Upon a Time in America due to a technicality. Since the film was drastically cut in the US, the distributors forgot to credit Morricone as the song writer.

Anyway, does anyone take the Oscar seriously anymore? Although Deer Hunter, The Last Emperor, and the films of Milos Forman were all more than worthy winners.

Finally they remebered!

But if you miss you had better miss very well. Whoever double-crosses me and leaves me alive, he understands nothing about Tuco.

Rather I suspect they made sure before award him that he'll be there to get it.

Michel Legrand and John Barry are two great ones who got honoured for the wrong (but american: let's not forget what we're talking about) numbers: Legrand's work for Demy's musicals (and a bunch of other gems) are exquisite and Barry's for the 007 same. BTW Legrand's theme for Summer of 42 is  good, though of course GiĆ¹ la testa's score is another level.
