I just read on several sites that controversial Japanese filmmaker Takashi Miike (AUDITION, ICHI THE KILLER, VISITOR Q, FULL METAL YAKUZA) has already begun filming a remake of DJANGO entitled SUKIYAKI WESTERN DJANGO. From Sony Pictures no less.

The film will supposedly be shot in english and believe it or not Quentin Tarantino(Huh) will have a part in the film as well.

I expect there will be some outrageous scenes of violence in this.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0906665/

Tarantino as Ringo?

If this is set in 1100 I would say there will be no Gatling Gun...hopefully there is a coffin.

Is this even an official Django remake?

And what would an anglo like QT be doing in the middle of a war between two gangs of samurai warriors?

I didn't forget I only listed a few of his more popular ones. The man has done over dozens of films since and before AUDITION.

The reason Tarantino is in this is because Tarantino and Miike are very close friends.

For instance, he was the one who decided to put the cameo of Miike in Hostel (He was producing).

It's also because QT is a HUGE fan of Django.

If they ever decide to release this movie in the US (which I doubt) I can see 1 of 3 reasons of what will happen:

1.Cut so much that its no comprehendable

2.Release it Uncut and leaving people to see it in independent theaters

3.Forget a big screen release and head straight for dvd

Like remakes of any classic movie I'm very dubious about this.Don't like QT but if it has to be made Franco Nero should be involved somewhere Roll Eyes

so any word on if this is actually a remake, or just using the name Django in the title the way countless other movies did...

yeah it's a remake. Taking a Western and adapting it to a Samurai movie. Sounds familiar, eh? Like the way Sergio adapted a samurai movie to a western, eh? Also, Darren Aronofsky wants to take a samurai Magna (whatever that is) and adapt it into a western. It's like the two genres are interchangable.  Roll Eyes

now its getting interesting with Samurai's. I mean

Takashi Miike + Samurai Swords= Some Crazy and most likely the most Shocking thing that you will see.

If you guys havent seen any of Miike's earlier work then you really should because this guy doesn't mess around with it comes to gore.

A lot of Miike's movies do not involve gore at all. He has even done musicals if you can believe that. The extremely violent films are the ones he is remembered most for.

The Manga is Lone Wolf and Cub, same manga that Road to Perdition was based off of. So, this will be a samurai manga with two adaptations based off of two different periods of American crime.

I'm waiting for the gangster version next.

I see what your saying but this is going to be a movie with gore being a major part in it.
