That's correct, Tuco.
But Sergio and Bogdanovich started fighting from the very first day he arrived in Rome (for instance Bogd. hated close-ups) and after a 3 months stay in Rome, Bogd. packed his suitcases and went back to the States. Leone then met Sam Peckinpah in London and apparently Sam was thrilled by the idea of directing a movie produced by SL. However, it seems United Artists didn't like the idea that much and Sam P. had second thoughts, too. This hurt Sergio's feelings and that's why he put Sam P.'s name on a gravestone in My name is Nobody.
Then Luciano Vincenzoni was offered the job, but he declined and in the end, the choice fell on Giancarlo Santi who worked closely with Leone on GBU.
After a few days, when Rod Steiger realized that the movie wasn't going to be directed by Sergio, he raised hell and called Hollywood. The next day Sergio took over.
In Frayling's book "Something to do with death" (page 313 to 323) he describes in detail and with a lot of anecdotes what happened between SL and Bogdanovich and some of it is quite hilarious.

You're right Leonardo. Can you imagine how hilarious the arguments between Sergio and Bogdanovich must have been?   Grin

Leone and Bogdanovich would've never gotten along with each other if Peter agreed to direct this movie. Their styles were complete opposites. Bogdanovich's style was more traditional while Leone was post-modernist.

They would've killed each other on the set.  Roll Eyes

Wow! I like the new avatar alot!

That looks like an alternate angle fo OUATITW. Certainly doesn't look like a production still.

Leone would kick Peckinpah's ass any day of the week ( Bloody Sam is bloody good, but who can beat Sergio? ).  Cool

Of course I meant on the film set. . . I think they'd tear each other apart, figuratively or literally.  The language barrier would be an additional problem.
