Are there any female members on this web board? The reason i ask is that my partner has no interest when Im watching a Leone film, predominantly his Westerns, therefore I'm wondering whether there are any female Leone fans? His films were reknowned for being male orientated (with the exception of OUTITW, being his first real exploration of the female character), so is this an explanantion as to lack of female fans? Or are there a Fistful of female fans out there? Anyone?   Huh

I'm female. Smiley
Actually, I know personally at least two women who really liked OUATITW + my grandma remembered it, which I guess means she liked it, too. (OUATITW is the best-known Leone's film in my country.)
And I really am not the only female here. And if you went through discussions under Leone's films on IMDb, you would find similar questions and other female fans.

There are two kinds of films in this world:those which stay, even when their genre is forgotten, and those which don't.

Fans of the Western, as a genre, tend to be overwhelmingly male. Same with war pictures and prog-rock. This is not to say that women cannot or do not enjoy such things, but those who do are in the minority.

I'm a female too and I also enjoyed Once upon a time in the west, which my boyfriend lend me. I have yet to see Once upon a time in America. He said he liked it very much but was very nostalgic. I also like The Good, the Bad and the Ugly because of my boyfriend.

Wow, your boyfriend is one lucky man. I have yet to meet a girl who's a fan of Sergio Leone. You have good taste!

Don't forget Boardwalk Angel!  And there were several others who used to post here but haven't in awhile (like Jill McBain).

Seriously though, I think one of the big reasons Western films kind of suck nowadays is because they are trying to make films that appeal to a wide audience for big box office and that includes the female race, lol.

My opinion is men compartmentalize their lives, we segregate things into boxes basically, we have our "sportsfan" box, our "daddy" box, our "husband" box, our "pub" box, our "work" , "office" ,  "job" boxes, etc., etc.

We also have our old style "WESTERN" box, which basically is limited dialog & emotions, shooting action, adventure, cool charaters, evil villains, and periferal women. We don't need no love story, that's in another compartment, Leone knew this. Mixing things up screws up the works.

Nowadays in Westerns we have lots of mandatory horse shots, lol, emotional "heros" that interact with women in camouflauged love stories who are equally important to what kind of can be called the plot.
