Over at DVDrama: http://www.dvdrama.com/news.php?7020

Hopefully the new English 5.1 (on all the editions) will be a true separation of the audio tracks and not just an awful upmix w/ 'enhanced' or completely new sound effects at spots (like MGM's The Terminator Dolby 5.1), at least the R1 will include the original mono audio!

Hi Everyone,

I'm Lancelot Narayan. I produced and directed the special features for the Once Upon A Time In The West Collectors Edition DVD.

I was hoping that when the disc is released in France that on eor some of the posters on this fine site couls translate the reviews for me. All of the people I work with put in a lot of effort to create the material and I'm sure they would like to find out what the rest of the world thinks of their work!

Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

All the best,

Lance Smiley

First of all, many thanks indeed for the massive amount of special features you and your team were able to put in this CE. I'm pretty sure that the quality of extras in this new edition will match or even surpass our expectations. If only those bad guys at Warner had done the same for the recent release of OUATIA...

Feel free to ask any questions?
Wellll, you don't need to say that twice...  Wink
Talking about R2 releases...
1) what about an Italian version of the C.E.?
2) what languages and subtitles will be present in the version available for the U.K.?
3) as regards the extras, what subtitles will be included?
4) will the Limited C.E. (with the harmonica and the soundtrack CD) be available only in Germany, or also in the U.K. and other European countries?

Hi Guy,

My mother was going to call me Guy, but opted for Lancelot instead! I don't know why you wanted to know that but there it is....

Anyway onto OUATITW CE DVD...

Paramount Pictures own the rights to OUATITW everywhere in the world except Italy. That was the deal that was signed back in 1968. That is why there was a separate Italian DVD release recently.

There are too many subtitle languages to list, but soundtracks are German, French, Spanish and of course English.

For the extras, the above applies.

Finally, I think that the Harmonica box set will only be available in Germany. Shame, as I want one too.

Hope that helps. I've just this moment seen the check disc and it looks awesome. The menus are wonderful and the picture is so sharp, you can put your hand in it.

Lance

PS Some of the French info on the extras is slightly inaccurate. The Rialroad featurette does NOT feature Leone and Fonda. They appear in part 1 of the documentary.

I've just realised something. The languages on the extras are just English!!

But they are subtitled. In the documentaries, some contributors speak Italian. Subtitles automatically appear.

Largo, hi again
thanks for the quick reply. here is just one more question:
what about the length of the movie?
The recent Italian release is 175' long, whereas Play.com mentions a duration of approx. 160 minutes.

Another one...with captures of the transfer and documentaries!

I may just have to spring on the French edition just to have it a little early!  Grin

Not to worry, one of my colleagues has translated the page.

You know I love the French, but they have to gripe about something, don't they?
