Here is a film that anyone interested in Italian cinema must check out its probably Lina Wertmuller's most accessable film not quite as heavily political as her previous collaborations with Giancarlo Giannini and Mariangela Melato though it does touch upon various subjects its more of a tragic comedy with one of the great picaresque charaters of cinema (second to Tuco in my book).
This is another film that is non linear in the storyline told in flashbacks.
Pasqalino a small time wanna be macho big shot with seven sisters and a mother to take care of has to defend as a "man of honor" the family honor when his oldest sister falls into the clutches of a Neopolitan pimp "18 carat Dotonni". His solution to the problem and all the resulting domimo effects combined with WWII send Pasqualino spiraling down into an unforgetable hell.
This film also has a great hypnotic openning sequence reffered to as the "Oh Yea" song but its actually a jazzy instrumental piece that has a montage of historic WWII footage accompanied with an almost mantra type voice over the words of which are below.
You guys must check this out its got a recent SE DVD release.
