perhaps.. i have a dream

« : February 19, 2007, 12:05:55 AM »

anyone else seen this..?

"A growing number of Evangelical Christians believe there is a revival underway in America that requires Christian youth to assume leadership roles in advocating the causes of their religious movement. This documentary, directed by Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady, directors of the critically acclaimed THE BOYS OF BARAKA, follows Levi, Rachael, and Tory to Pastor Becky Fischer's "Kids on Fire" summer camp in Devil's Lake, North Dakota, where kids as young as 6 years-old are taught to become dedicated Christian soldiers in "God's army."

This riveting Oscar-nominated documentary offers an unfiltered look at a revivalist subculture where devout Christian youngsters are being primed to deliver the fundamentalist community's religious and political messages. Building an evangelical army of tomorrow, the Kids on Fire summer camp in Devil's Lake, N.D., is dedicated to deepening the preteens' spirituality and sowing the seeds of political activism as they're exhorted to "take back America for Christ."  "

well, i just watched Jesus Camp.. and i'm pretty unsettled right now.

the contents of the film were enough alone to disturb me.. i was not aware that a good sized chunk of the film, including the intro, was filmed in my hometown and at the church i went to growing up. i've experienced a lot of what is going on in this movie throughout my life, until i moved out, although not as extreme. had no idea this film would be hitting so close to home though.

anyway, strongly recommend this film. it completely drives home the impact this movement is having on our government right now

the leader of the camp in this movie, even states she would like to see children in this country as passionate as the children being trained as militant extremists in other countries

i'm going to go try to unfuck my head now

the website of what this movie primarily focuses on. the head (becky fischer) is apparently proud of it being nominated for an oscar and is even selling the film on the website.

Peacemaker - It's been doing a good job in the past several years >:(

Really? I don't think so.

Organized religion is just like a dictatorship. It tries to shield us from the truth.

Besides, isn't religion suppose to teach us to love one another and tolerate different beliefs instead of killing others in the name of that religion?

We must make an idol of our fear, and call it god.

Besides, isn't religion suppose to teach us to love one another and tolerate different beliefs instead of killing others in the name of that religion?

It's supposed to be a lot of things, but quite often the teachings are bent to the parishioners will or misquided/warped views of what's right and wrong.

For some, religion can be a useful tool to overcome the many hardships life is Bound to offer. For others it becomes a sickening addiction, completely overshadowing the true joys of life. Often the latter comes equipped with the makings for horrific and deadly results.

Also, religion smells funny and its mother is said to be of a promiscuous nature.
