I just got a look at TCM's schedule for next Saturday, and they must be up to their Best Picture time, because. . . well, I'll let this line up speak for itself.

6:30 A.M. - On the Waterfront D: Elia Kazan Starring: Marlon Brando, Rod Steiger, Lee J. Cobb, Karl Malden. (really want to see this one, but I doubt I'll be awake in time)

8:30 A.M. - All Quiet on the Western Front D: Lewis Milestone Starring: Lew Ayres, Louis Walheim, John Wray, Arnold Lucy.

11:00 - From Here to Eternity D: Fred Zinneman Starring: Frank Sinatra, Deborah Kerr, Burt Lancaster, Ernest Borgnine, Montgomery Clift, Donna Reed. (Will which if we don't go out anywhere.)

1:00 - Bridge on the River Kwai D: David Lean Starring: Alec Guinness, William Holden, Jack Hawkins, Sessue Hayakawa, Geoffrey Horne, James Donald, Ann Sears. (Great performances by Guinness and Hayakawa, and probably THE greatest climax in any movie ever!)

4:00 - Lawrence of Arabia D: David Lean Starring: Peter O'Toole, Omar Sharif, Alec Guinness, Anthony Quinn, Jose Ferrer, Jack Hawkins, Claude Rains, Anthony Quayle, Arthur Kennedy. (My favorite movie ever!  See it!)

8:00 - A Man for All Seasons D: Fred Zinneman Starring: Paul Scofield, Wendy Hiller, Leo McKern, Robert Shaw, Orson Welles, Susannah York, Nigel Davenport, John Hurt. (Probably the best-acted film ever, and certainly one of the greatest scripts ever written.)

10:00 - Out of Africa D: Sydney Pollack Starring: Robert Redford, Meryl Streep, Klaus Maria Brandeur. (I want to see this at some point though it's not on my must-see list.)

Now I can't think of a better line up than that!  :o I doubt I'll watch much of it, but my God!

Finally, a chance to view From Here to Eternity!

I already own Waterfront, All Quiet (will soon own rerelease), and Lawrence. I'll probably buy River Kwai today, as it's one of my favorites. Don't care too much to view the other two.

I'll get the chance to see A Man for All Seasons and All Quiet on the Western Front.

The others I've seen except for Out of Africa.

I'll probably tune in for "On the Waterfront" (never seen) and "Lawrence" (haven't seen in a long time).  Thanks for this list.

If you get to see "A Man for All Seasons", please let me know what you think of it!  I love the play to death, and the movie is an excellent adaptation of it.  Paul Scofield, Wendy Hiller, Orson Welles, Robert Shaw, Leo McKern - all are amazing!

Speaking of Lean, I'd love to eventually see Doctor Zhivago. I've just been watching so many long and epic movies lately that I don't feel like it.

As much as I love LoA, I think Doctor Zhivago is Lean's best film.

Most people won't agree with me though.

I like them as LoA, Kwai, then Zhivago.

And I still owe one burning to Leone Admirer for not liking David.
