I just got a response from amazon.de, where I ordered the german "gold edition" of "Duck, you Sucker" ("Todesmelodie") last december, that this 2005 release is permanently out of stock. 8-(

As far as I know that's the only release with every last second of the movie, is that correct?

UK release of the special edition is cut, but atleast french and scandinavian releases are supposed to be full uncut (the special editions that is.. or collectors edition... or whatever it is called in some countries).

The UK edition has the same scenes the German, Scandanavian, and Norweigian DVDs have.

The reason why everyone says the UK edition is cut is because the British censors trimmed 6 seconds of footage from the film of horses falling during the bridge sequence.

I own the UK DVD and saw this movie last week at a movie theater. It was the uncut version but it has those six seconds put back in and believe me, you're not missing anything.

Get the UK DVD. I think it's great. The surround sound really adds to the effect.

Thing is, if they announce a new edition of the MGM SE with original mono, I would double dipp like a shot.

I know we're talking about only couple of seconds, but cut is cut no matter how much or little has been cut away. ;)

I do own lots of cut DVDs but if the basically same DVD release (atleast german and scandinavian are supposed to be exactly the same as the UK except for the missing seconds... same audio tracks, subtitles, extras and image quality?) is available as uncut and cut (even if it were only one second) I'm definitely going for the uncut one.

But of course everyone is welcome to buy and watch whatever version they wish. And depending on where you live, the UK disc is probably much cheaper than something else (I think you can get the UK disc for under $15 from Amazon.co.uk and the French disc would be closer to $25 at amazon.fr).

I should have maybe added the same information as you did Peacemaker. I'm talking about mentioning what exactly is cut... that way the reader can make their own decision if the cuts bother him/her or not. But I figured that Scarabaeus might already know what is missing since he says "with every last second of the movie". But of course I can't know for sure.

I don't understand BBFC's censorship decisions though, because the older UK release (which is missing that one flashback scene) actually has those 6 seconds in the film that are missing from the special edition...  :o

The BBFC censored the 6 seconds because you see horses falling to the ground very hard. They didn't want to offend the animal rights activists.

But the 6 seconds really does not matter at all. Two horses falling being cut from the film is not something to get so upset over.

Yes, I knew it was "only" the 6 second horse scene, and I already own the UK release. But the german release would have had the added benefit of the german track (I know, silly me, but I don't speak italian).  Guess I have to wait for a high definition release...

It's really strange that they would take this release out of print after just a year and a half.

Thank you all for the info!

Could be rights issues, do you know which studio was releasing it?

Maybe that means there will be an R1 release, too!

MGM is suppose to release an R1 edition sometime this year but don't hold your breath.

Just buy a region free DVD player and get the UK edition, it's fantastic. Besides, a R0 DVD player is a great investment for any film buff.

It would be good to know if this differs from the UK SE in other ways besides the extra 6 seconds of running time.
