Seeing Leone directing with his usual passion should one make
wish to see it:

If I hadn't wanted to see it already before... yes, it should! :)

There are two kinds of films in this world:those which stay, even when their genre is forgotten, and those which don't.

Ah, Scarabaeus, we have enough comedians around here. Did you see or like this film? Enquiring mind wants to know.

Yes, I did watch this movie two or three times over the years and found it quite entertaining. And to answer Peacemaker's question, it was definetely Leone who directed it from A to Z.
Leone was second  director in The Last days of Pompeii (1959) and Sodom & Gomorrah (1962) both uncredited. And you all know the story about Sergio being the second unit director in Ben Hur, heavily involved in the chariot race (at least that's what he claimed).
You will notice Leone's touch here and there and he was also lucky to have a reasonable budget for COR.
This movie was also very important for Sergio, as he met his future wife Carla Ranalli who was choreographer in this movie.

Yes, he was...the general consensus, even among Leone scholars, is that Leone directed most of the movie...Mario Bonnard got sick the first day of shooting.

I enjoyed Colossus of Rhodes...it starts off very much like a spaghetti western...ex-soldiers returning from the war...gang of cutthroats riding around...etc.

Thanks so much for the tip! Man, this month is a Leone-lover's dream.

I saw 'Rhodes' on the big screen at a Leone retrospective in Queens, N.Y.
back in '99. Enjoyable, but no real signature style imho.

DeepDiscount has told me they've shipped my disc already, I'm hoping it shows up this weekend. I'm gonna play it with the Frayling commentary from the get-go!
