Inspired by this post in another thread:

Quote
Just thinking, wouldn't it have been fantastic if someone had made a genuine SW team-up film, with Clint as MWNN, Franco Nero as Django, Lee Van Cleef as Sabata and Gianni Garko as Sartana? In fact, any combination of two from that list would've been brilliant.

So this probably won't happen (can't, in Cleef's case). So let's say that some director who's a spaghetti fan (Cox, Tarantino) decided to cast the movie that serves as the title for this topic. What modern actors would best fill the roles created in the classic spaghettis?

Let me cut off the spoilsports at the pass. I know we're all classicists here. We love our old movies and we'd abhor anything like this really happening. But just for the sake of fun / debate, let's give it a whirl without instantly kicking into the, "This is a horrible idea and I'm not participating, but posting only so you know how horrible an idea this is," sort of post. First person to ignore this paragraph and do this has to watch White Comanche.

I'll be working on my own ideas in the meantime.

Starring as Blondie/Manco/Joe/MWNN (the role created by Clint Eastwood):
Starring as Sartana (the role created by Gianni Garko):
Starring as Django (the role created by Franco Nero):
Starring as Sabata (the role created by Lee Van Cleef):
Starring as Ringo (the role created by Giuliano Gemma):
Starring as Trinity (the role created by Terence Hill):

Wow, it's hard to recast any of these guys....

Especially Blondie....

But if it did happen, I'd want to see Josh Holloway in the MWNN role.

I'll need some time for the rest.

Some early ideas:

The villain of the piece would definitely have to be Willem Dafoe as Tigrero/Loco:

I'm thinking Clive Owen as Django. Handsome, but rugged like Nero. You have to both empathize emotionally with the character as well as see him capable of gunning down a small army with a gatling gun. I think Owen could pull this off:

For some reason, Gianni Garko has always reminded me of Vincent D'Onofrio. Perhaps its the intensity in their eyes. Whatever the case, if D'Onofrio can drop some weight (as opposed to that which he gained for Full Metal Jacket) and be pulled away from CSI, I can see him dressed all in black saying, "I'm your pallbearer."

Thoughts?

Yeah Defoe fits the bill brilliantly as Loco.

But Owen (or any other Englishman i can think of)wouldn't work as Django and isn't cool enough.

I agree... he doesn't match the character at all.  It's like saying that Blondie could be played by DiCaprio...

what a nightmare.

I'm struggling to think of a current American actor who looks good with the obligatory stubble or beard to play Django.Brad Pitt comes to mind,he's undoubtably cool but i'm really NOT a fan of his.

Actors today seem so wimpy in comparison... I actually think Will Ferrell has the looks, with a little makeup, to pull off an SW role (as long as he doesn't talk).

I agree.

All of yesterdays top western actors had great voices as well as real tough guy credentials and charisma.

I blame today's Hollywood standards.  Any idiot can be renowned as a "great actor", it's a disgrace.
