In everyone's life there is a "Summer of '42"

It amazes me how many forum members decide to remain anonymous
in regards to their hometown. This is also common in most other on-line
forums. I find it fascinating to learn of the other member's heritage, culture etc...
and in most cases, when I click on a member's profile, most parameters are
either blank or NA. Why is that so?

Most fear crazies.
The internet is virtually accessible to every one on the planet.
And as you know their are many socially unacceptable people living here so you run into a lot of nutters on the web. One just left the forum not too long ago and he knows where I live and he's not more than 10 miles away from me.

People just like to be careful.

To me it wouldn't be a problem to tell my hometown to the regular users of the forum, but everything we write here is also visible to all people over the net. I don't want some people of my town to figure out that I'm "moviesceleton" here. In fact, I don't even want my friends to know. I know it's unlikely that they would end up on this forum, but why risk? If some regular user necessarily wants to know where I live, they can PM me.

That's my sentiment also. Really...are people that concerned that someone will
stalk them if they find out their hometown?

No, no, no. I just... I want to stay anonymous here. They don't have to know what I do on the net. F*** I know this sounds stupid. Lets say I'm that much shy that I don't want some semi-friend to come to me and comment on something I said here. It could lead to situation where he came here just to see what I write, or maybe even trolling. I know this propably makes no sense but I can't explain it better.

And my town isn't the biggest one.

I understand what you're saying moviesceleton. I respect where you're coming from. Me on the other hand have no problem telling you where I'm from. I mean for the most part, I've met nothing but great people on this forum. If I started getting harrased, or threatned, I'd just take off where I'm from in my profile.

Bingo.

That really sucks that he knows where you reside FC. Hopefully, he isn't as big of a nutjob as I am led to believe.

I'm an extremely private person but I will answer the questions of members who I trust (which is virtually everyone here now). It never hurts to be careful though.

Claudia, we need you to appear in LOST COMMAND. It's gonna revolutionize the war genre. What did you think of the script?

I can't help being cautious, both of my parents being as paranoid as can be. I hope not to be too much like them in the case of paranoia in the future.

Still, I'm sure someone could figure out where I live judging from tracking me on the internet.

I think for the most part everyone that participates here is cool. It's far better than IMDB. You get some strange people chatting there.
