was the machine gun available in 1889?

I am trying to figure out if there was any year in which the machine gun was available, the Americans wore blue, and the Mexicans wore khaki?.. That would be the moment FOD takes place (if it is indeed accurate)

Not the machine gun the Khaki Mexican Uniforms in 1889 at least and maybe before, anyway from a Wiki article "The first self-powered machine gun was invented in 1885 by Sir Hiram Maxim. The "Maxim gun" used the recoil power of the previously fired bullet to reload rather than being hand-powered, enabling a much higher rate of fire than was possible using earlier designs such as the Nordenfelt and Gatling weapons. Maxim's other great innovation was the use of water cooling (via a water jacket around the barrel) to reduce overheating."

Been looking but I can't find an exact date for when the Mexican Army switched to Khaki.  Those images by Remington are the only evidence for the 1889-1890 date, (but those may actually be WHITE or off White or even unbleached muslin) but again it may have been earlier and influenced by the British and or French.

If you look into the history of Khaki, you'll see that the British Army adopted it post 1846 for all regiments, whether British or Indian, serving in the India-Pakistan region for active service and summer dress. The original khaki fabric was a closely twilled cloth of linen or cotton.

The French Foreign Legion used all-white or light khaki uniforms (from as early as the 1890s) and were often worn in the field or for ordinary duties in barracks.

However this image below during the French Invasion of Mexico shows examples of Mexican uniforms some of which are WHITE.  So whether we are dealing with white/dirty white, unbleached muslin or actual Khaki could be debatable

Although the Maxim was first invented in 1885, it wasn't used until 1895,  by the British  at a Matabele uprising in Africa. 25% of the natives killed were Directly due to it. It wasn't Practical, though,  until smokeless powder was generally accepted. Black powder fouled out the single barrel too quiclkly. Gas-operation was impossible with black powder's fouling.  That's another reason  why  multiple-barrel guns like the Gatling, Nordenfelt, and Hotchkiss were so popular until 1897 or so. I've since edited Wiki's article--Maxim invented the belt feed, which is Still used Today.  He Didn't invent Water Cooling--The Gardener gun had it (YouTube/GardenerGun.)   Maxim's prototype was Air-Cooled....

In  the movie"Khartoum"  (1884?), there are scenes of a Maxim-Nordenfelt gun. It has multiple barrels, fed all at once by the crank, then fired all at once. It is technically a "volley gun".

When the  fake gun in AFOD was made  is Anyone's guess---1964?
