Got it today, and it's great. The restoration is very good with fine picture and sound quality.Haven't watched all the filn yet but heard some of the commentary, although a bit 'patchwork'it is full of interesting facts and observations. The documentaries are great too,i especially liked the old interviews with Sergio and Henry Fonda. In many ways a better DVD than the OUATIA DVD,and far better than the shoddy FOD realease,I would say this is the best realease on DVD of a Leone film yet.ENJOY!!!

I got mine in the mail yesterday. I saw the review on BBC films, five out of five stars, and a lot of bragging about the picture and sound.

Today is Saturday, I have a widescreen tv and a surround system... And a bottle of Jack Daniel's.

Oh yes. Life can be sweet.  Wink

What else to say, now that I have seen the dvd,  than I agree completely with Jon? A magnificent dvd in all ways possible! This sure as hell was worth waiting a few years for!

And I liked what I've heard so far from the commentaries a lot better than those on OUATIA.

Sound quality is excellent too, I love the sound of that steam locomotive hissing and grunting at Cattle Corner.

I like how they used the locomotive sound on the 2nd Disc Main Menu. Always was a unique sound.  not your usual 'stock' steam engine sound.

Wonderful DVD watched it also on Saturday evening. Best ive bought for my player this year.

Jus the packaging was i popping... The Leone quote on the back... and heres me thinkin that these big companies don't care..

MGM should be taking notes.....  Wink

What is the aspect ratio on your copy?  The one at Amazon.com is only 1:77:1 (or something like that).  Cry

Widescreen 2.35:1 Anamorphic i think. don't have it in front of me.

Also the Region 1 will be the only version which includes the original Mono Audio track. (Take note the purists among us)  Wink

Region 2 DVDs tend to have to make room for all the European languages. so we tend to miss out on isolated soundtracks & little extras etc.

oh well

Has anyone been able to confirm the aspect ratio for the region 1 disc?  I have it on order with Amazon and I'll cancel it if it will in fact be only 1.77:1

WHy the hell would they release this film in that aspect ration given all the work that has to go into making a DVD?

If you consider widescreenreview.com anything of an authority on DVD movie technical specs, then here goes:

Once upon a time in the west R1, SCE, 2-Disk.

(Studio/Distributor):
 Paramount Home Entertainment

(Principal Photography):
 Techniscope

(Theatrical Aspect Ratio):
 2.35:1

(Measured DVD Anamorphic Aspect Ratio):
 2.35:1

(Measured DVD Letterbox Aspect Ratio):
 2.35:1

(DVD Soundtrack):
Dolby Digital 5.1, Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono

(Theatrical Sound):
 Optical Mono

Hope this is of help.
Cheers.
