I wonder if people really watch the movies they write about. Garfield liquidates this in 5 lines and generally Audie Murphy's movies go under the same treatment. Thank God we have vhs and dvd's and internet to judge by ourselves and I'd give this 8\10 were it not for the last minute (yes, that leaves a bad impression): they could have found a better ending. But the rest of the movie is up to Boetticher's best. Maybe not as good as his 2-3 masterpieces, but better than the rest. This has lots of action, plotting, characters (beginning from Murphy's) not easily defined as "good" or "bad". And there's a figure of a black man treated with absolute respect, unusual in those times. The french dvd

has also the added pleasure of including this just as good documentary:

where, by the by, I come to apprehend that Boetticher was offered Comancheros.

A stylish little western with the main focus on dynamic action. At least by far the best of Boetticher's pre-Ranown cycle westerns.

I did not like this one at all. And I hate watching Audie Murphy movies. I don't like criticizing him, the most decorated American solider in World War II, but IMO he added nothing to any movie he was in. Maybe the girls liked his looks, but that doesn't help me.
This movie gets a 5.5/10

There are three types of people in the world, my friend: those who can add, and those who can't.
